The Macintosh SE/30

Released in January of 1989, The SE/30 was essentially a IIx inside an SE case. The second floppy feature of the SE was no longer offered in the SE/30, in favor of a built-in hard drive. The machine sold for $4,369.

You'll need HyperCard or
HC Player to view the stacks
You can buy 4 meg 30 pin simms on eBay for pennies. Eight of them give you 32 megs which is mor than you'll ever need on the SE/30.
If you have an SE, you can buy an SE/30 motherboard on eBay for about $30 and pop it into the SE. Of course you'll sitll have an 800k floppy drive (unless you have an SE FDHD high density floppy).
If you can find 16 meg 30 pin simms, you can take your SE/30 to 128 megs.

SoftPC ans SoftAT allow you to emulate DOS PC's. Try your local thrift stores.
Minix is a Unix variant that will run great on teh SE/30 - no need to reformat your hard drive.
Run Linux and BSD on your SE/30.

Desktop Manager. Ever switch between System 6.0x and 7.x on a Mac Plus and hate it whe it rebuilds the desktop? Takes 5 min on my 520 meg drive. This will eliminate rebuilding the desktop.

The SE/30 has color QuickDraw on the ROM so you can use grayscale and color monitors with it. It will also run color QuickTime movies in bitmapped black and white (requires QuickTime software).
