One word: Zappa. O.K., 2 words. Joe Newman. The Boogers took songs form each members' previous bands and reworked them to fit the ensemble cast. Most of the songs were courtesy of Austin's Joe Newman, late of the one man band Rudy Schwartz Project. Think Frank Zappa's little brother. Newman wrote with a fiery tongue ('the Fog and the Dew') and could write a melody that would make the band fall to the floor laughing. With tunes from Homicidal Briefcase, the Glands, Swingin Love Corpses, Doctors For Bob, Booger 9k was like an underground super group of mid-south alterna-rock. Geez, I should be a PR hack for a record company.
