Mad With Macintosh

This is the eBay text from the seller:

This is a rare chance to own a piece of Apple

history... You may never see one of these again, it's

a Green Neon Color Classic II that is believed to be

one of only a few (maybe less than 5) ever bulit by

Apple. It was made in the same facility where the

iMac is made. There is a lable inside on the trinitron

tube that even reads "Engineering Sample". The

green case is made of "lesa" light emmitting acrylic

hat has a noen property... This unit is near perfect

condition for a prototype. THIS IS FULLY FUCTIONING

COLOR CLASSIC II - 33MHz, 6mb ram, 76mb hard

drive, SCSI port, 2 adb ports, 1 serial printer port,

1 serial modem port, 1 speaker out jack, 1 mic in

jack........ buyer pays actual shipping costs, Money

Order/Cashiers Checks only please, Payment must

be received in 10 days from the close of auction or

item may be relisted......

Here is another ebay posting of a clear green color classic. Notice that this one notes that it is a Color Classic II and has 6 (!) megs of ram and a 10 (!) meg drive :) Interesting to note that Apple hadn't shipped a TEN meg drive in anything since the Apple II days, no Mac EVER had a drive that small. Notice the first pic, it's the same as the first pic above with the grass cropped out... hmm....

This posting was up in Feb 2004.

You are bidding on a very Rare Color Classic. This working Classic is one of possibly only TWO ever built. It has a clear back and a translucent green front. There is a sticker inside on the picture tube that reads "Engineering Sample", and there are differences about the mother board that do not appear in later production models... This is running OS 7.5.1 with I believe, 6mb RAM and a 10mb HD.... There is no keyboard, mouse, or power cord, that comes with this Classic, only the what you see in the photos.... Early on, Apple produced clear versions of production and preproduction models either for display at trade shows, or so engineers could check the final fit prior to production runs..... Also, at that time, Apple had been known to produce small limited runs of various models in different colors or configurations for VIP's ( ie: the all black, not gray, TAM ). Reportedly there were about 20 all clear Classics made for trade shows, and only 2 of these.... There has been much debate about this computer weather it truly was a PROTOTYPE, display model, or a VIP gift... I think because of the physical differences between this and the production models, you can argue in favor of this being a preproduction PROTOTYPE... In either case, this is an authentic Apple Computer.. maybe not as important as an Apple 1, but just as rare, and will make a nice addition to any ones collection.. Please go to ( http://www.applefritter.com/prototypes/greencc/index.html ) for more photos...... I am willing to ship anywhere in the world as long as you pay the shipping & ins. charges.... PayPal is preferred, but will accept US Postal Money Orders, or payment through Western Union...
