How Do You Get That Cool Bluesy Tone On the Bluesboy Jag Cigar Box Guitars?

I wind my hand wound pickups extra hot for that extra blues 'growl' everyone talks about. It really brings out the tone and overdrive, especially when you play slide with your Bluesboy Jag cigar box guitar. I also use all tube amplifiers as they have the true blues tone that the masters like Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Billy Gibbons used. It's a harmonic distortion that a solid state amp just can't match. Also using your fingers with a regular wound pickup tends to yield a lower volume than with a pick. Since most slide guitarists use their fingers, that extra hot pickup helps to bring the volume up when you use your fingers.

If you have a solid state amp, set your distortion to minimum and go up from there until you reach your favorite saturation point. Some amps will sound better than others but generally speaking, you can achieve a pretty awesome tone without a lot of distortion on your amp. Think Keith Richards and you'll be ready to go!
